Garbo Talks Friday 16th April 2010

Yes, after nearly 3 months, a new Boxer 1.0 alpha build is shaved and thrust blinking into the sunlight. This build comes with the following bullet points:

This is important, kids: a lot has changed under Boxer’s hood from my gonzo restructuring, and There Will Be Bugs. Furthermore, You Must Report Them otherwise They’ll Stay There Forever and Boxer Won’t Get Better and I Will Die a Sad and Broken Man.

There will likely be several more builds in quick succession as things are shaken down and all those bugs you keen entomologists report are squished. Either that, or I’ll tear the heart out of SDL’s input handling and the codebase will be busted for another 3 months. Oh, which will he choose!?

Commentary

  1. That's really hell a nice post and even better news :) "I will die a sad and broken man" rocks! Now… observe and report - time to get "excited" :P

  2. Your program is da best! I was checking out DOSBox to play some old favorite titles and guess what the DMG link on dosbox site is dead and I could deal with dependency hell compiling DOSBox under MacPort. And then I found your Boxer, it's like Jesus of year 0 in year 2010. Keep up good work, I will definitely introduce your Boxer to everyone I know and ask for donation :)

  3. Words fail me, Mr. Bestor. You're indisputably developing all by yourself the ultimate DOS treatment. Hats off!

  4. Gave the new build a quick inspection/run. No hiccups noted.

Still the best program for DOS with excellent design base.

  5. Oh yeah... Let's try this...

  6. Wow... this is too good to be true... You would've imagined I'd be playing Prehistoric at THAT resolution with HQx?? http://i42.tinypic.com/362kx.jpg This is surreal... and TOO good to be alpha!! It's just awesome Alun... Keep up the good work! I'll report any bugs I find! Later!

  7. Hey, it's eisnerguy1 from Twitter. Just wanted to say that this is an amazing program (especially for it being "Alpha"). With the newest version, I'm able to install Batman Returns again! :D Multiple floppies gave me problems before. Not anymore :D Thank you for the BEST DOSBox solution out there!
